Why am I such a misfit?
I am not just a nit wit!
You can't fire me
I quit!
Seems I don't fit in.
One of the things I always thought it would be fun to include were I to ever create a blog – and lo and behold, here I am – is a home for some of the many rejected designs that I've amassed over the years. Sort of an Island of Misfit Logos, or something.
There are many reasons why one design is picked, and another rejected. Sometimes it comes down to a client's personal tastes. Sometimes one just communicates a desired aspect of the brand in a better or more more compelling way. Sometimes a design was just "off". And sometimes, in the end, more than one solution worked well but only one could be picked and that's that.
So without further ado . . . here's our first Great Rejection
Easter & Cavosie Logo
When you're working with a group of construction lawyers who are also really fun people, it's appropriate to include a design that reflects the nature of the people themselves. That was the case here. They are fun folks, top to bottom, and have a great sense of humor (is my nose brown enough for everyone) and I felt that at least one of the concepts presented should reflect their collective personality. This is the result.
This is an "unpolished" concept, and had it been selected, it would have been cleaned up a bit more. The idea was to combine legal and construction imagery with a dash of playfulness. Although they went a different direction, they did actually gravitate to this one as well. There was talk at some point of using it for a T-Shirt design.
I love playing around with two very different elements when designing logos–they often make for more interesting concepts and usually are a lot more fun to dream up and play around with.
In the end I think they made a great choice in settling on this one:
More great rejections to come down the road.
Until then . . . Your thoughts?
